The Housing Industry Association is Australia’s largest residential building organisation. Members include builders, trade contractors, design professionals, kitchen and bathroom specialists, suppliers and manufacturers.
HIA’s requirements in their Adelaide building were to create a better working environment for staff; allow room for expansion, provide in-house training facilities that can be used independently after hours with separate entry; reflect the professionalism of HIA and to upgrade the building to ensure compliance with disabled access provisions which required installation of new elevator.
The HIA owned building is more than 20 years old and required an external base building upgrade in addition to a complete internal refurbishment.
External works included a complete replacement of the existing roof, the base building mechanical services, modernisation of the façade and modification of entrance and canopies, new car parking and landscaping.
Substantial works were also required to unify the electrical services within the building and ensure compliance with building codes. With rendering and refurbishment of the external facade and new distinctive branding and signage designed and installed to take advantage of the strategic position of the building on a major thoroughfare in Hindmarsh the transformation of the external façade was complete
The design concept for the internal refurbishment was to incorporate a mixture of new and commonly used materials in the housing industry to provide inspiration to members and reinforce HIA’s strategic position in the industry.
